Mall Girl - Lilies’ Dew
«Superstar», the debut record from Norwegian art-pop outfit Mall Girl, represents an exciting new chapter for the buzzed-about band, and will be released on Jansen Records April 29th, 2022.
Members Iver Armand Tandsether, Hannah Veslemøy Narvesen, Eskild Myrvoll and Bethany Forseth-Reichberg were forced to get creative when the pandemic hit, sidelining best-laid plans to flesh out some songs before heading into the studio together. While others put their creative endeavors on hold, Mall Girl opted to try something different. Many of the songs on «Superstar» were tracks that the band regularly performed, but they wanted to seize the opportunity to evolve their sound even more.
In October they released the first single from the record, the fizzy math pop tune «Bubbly Cool Drink». It was well received from both fans and the press, and the credible blog NBHAP (Nothing But Hope and Passion) chose it as their Daily Tune first week in November. Beats Per Minute, Beehive Candy and Lock Magazine – to mention a few – followed suit. Danish blog had the song as that week’s «irresistible» tune, and Norwegian trend blog 730.no highlighted the song as well.
«Bubbly Cool Drink» has been performing well on the streaming services as well, with Spotify putting them om playlists like New Music Friday Norway, Fresh Finds and Fresh Fins Rock, and TIDAL following up with playlists like Indie Circus, Global Rising, TIDAL Rising and Global Rising: Rock.
December 10th will be the release of the next single «Bachtap», and UK blog Under the Radar has already confirmed a premiere on Devcember 9th. It’s a highly infectious indie rock song, with crazy guitar parts and a catchy hook. The song is a favorite with both band and label, and singer Bethany Forseth-Reichberg says this about the song: «As you lay down in the sand on a starry night on the beach, you let yourself just chill as you observe the calm around you. And even though you don’t have all the answers you are looking for in life, you realize that you’re content with just waiting for everything to unfold in front of your eyes».
