Ole Kirkeng - “Still on My Mind”

Is there a cure against constantly thinking of someone? Maybe there is, but at the time of writing “Still on My Mind”, Ole Kirkeng was still searching for it.

Kirkeng seemingly burst out of nowhere in 2021 with the EP Rocking Chair, a release that was nominated for a Spellemann award (Norwegian Grammy).

"Still on My Mind" was written in the summer of 2021, and was developed at the kitchen table, at rehearsal and during walks around Oslo.

Kirkeng brought the rhythm section from his debut – Tor Egil Kreken and Thomas Gallatin (of Darling West) and Sander Eriksen – to the legendary studio Athletic Sound in Halden, where they further sculpted the arrangements.

Propelled forward by a country funk rhythm section and Sander Eriksen’s twangy The Byrds-guitar, they landed on a sound they loved. Furthermore, Norwegian legend Geir Sundstøl, sprinkled some pedal steel fairy dust on top. Kirkeng has fittingly been compared to Nick Lowe, but newly deceased John Prine also feels relevant to mention.

The result is an up-tempo tune which is easy to dance to and probably also raise a glass to. And maybe you’ll just about manage to stop thinking about that person.
