Malin Pettersen - “Cry If I Want To”
With a modernized soundscape and an eternal urge to explore, Malin Pettersen is ready to show off the music she has been working on for the past year. The urge to explore and the excitement over new musical friends and acquaintances have led to a number of exciting collaborations. The first revelation of her new acquaintances is Bergljot Bjella, the 17-year-old daughter of Stein Torleif Bjella.
The song "Cry If I Want To" is about taking control of suppressed emotions and accepting genuine reactions that may be socially challenging. Pettersen and producer Martin Horntveth highlight pop elements reflected by the decades she grew up in (the 90s and 00s). Malin Pettersen's presence is still easily recognizable by her distinctive vocals, and with elements from a much larger reference base, the soundscape is drawn towards an is pulled towards an exhilarating new scenery. As a supplement to new elements, Bjella contributes with her distinct, controlled, and r&b-inspired vocals to strengthen both the message and the genre-enlarged soundscape.
With her two releases on Die With Your Boots On Records, Malin Pettersen has become a popular artist in Norway and a name people notice internationally. The resonance with the public has resulted in a Norwegian Grammy Award (Spellemannpris), an appearance at Lindmo, Kåss Til Kvelds, and notices on websites such as Billboard, Rolling Stone and Forbes, and much more. This year she is ready to showcase new music at the Øya festival.
